UNDERGRADUATE UNIVERSITY STUDIES IN NURSING

In brief!

Academic title: Bachelor (baccalaureus/baccalaurea) of Nursing (univ. bacc. med. techn.)

Duration of studies: 6 semesters

Completion of studies: a minimum of 180 ECTS credits and passing of all exams. In each semester, students take compulsory and elective courses (a minimum of 30 ECTS credits). In most of the courses, the students’ work is evaluated throughout the semester and includes their performance at seminars, preliminary exams, (clinical) training and other activities and the final exam. This model encourages students to study regularly and master the teaching material.

What are you going to learn?

This part of the education is dedicated to the acquisition of the required knowledge, competences and skills in nursing. Students acquire knowledge and skills about the theories underlying general nursing, including sufficient understanding of structures, psychological functions and behaviour of healthy and ill individuals, as well as the relationship between the status of health and the physical and social environment of a human being. Furthermore, knowledge about nursing ethics and general principles of health and nursing is deepened. Students acquire adequate clinical experience, under the supervision of qualified health care personnel, acquire experience of teamwork and work with members of other health professions.

Nursing courses make up the bulk of the study programme. However, interdisciplinarity is promoted to enhance the students’ general knowledge and expand their horizons beyond the profession. Thus, students take courses in other disciplines and several courses in theology.

What can you do when you complete your studies?

This level of education is dedicated to the acquisition of the required knowledge, competences and skills for graduate university studies. The students will be able to obtain employment at all levels of health care (primary, secondary, tertiary), as well as outside the health care system in educational institutions as well as in social welfare institutions.
