Vanesa Varga

Vanesa Varga is a member of the research group D.E.C.I.D.E.

She has obtained her PhD in 2020 at the postgraduate doctoral study of information and communication sciences at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Zagreb. The doctoral dissertation is entitled “The role of social media in the promotion of animal rights and welfare.” She has obtained the academic title of Master of Education of Croatology in 2012, thus gaining pedagogical competencies. She has obtained the academic title of Master of Communication Studies in 2012 by defending her thesis entitled “Family on the Internet: identity, communication, image, commercialization.” She has obtained the academic title of Master of Museology and Heritage Management in 2013.

She has participated in several international and domestic conferences.

She has published two papers in domestic journals (A1). She is a author of one monograph.

At the Faculty of Croatian Studies since the academic year 2013/2014. she teaches the subject “Social Media”, from the academic year 2018/2019. “The Founders of Communication Studies and Their Works” and at the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Zagreb from the academic year 2020/2021 subjects “Communication Studeis”, “Business Communication” and “Communication of Graphic Design”.

She is a co-mentor of several graduate theses.

She has worked at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, thus gaining experience in museum pedagogy.

She is a member of the International Society for Visual Semiotics (IAVS) and the Society for Research on Adolescence (SRA).

She is fluent in English. Her interests are social media, internet communication, media effects, media semiotics.
