Research Workshop on Children and Youth Well-being and the Use of Digital Technology Held as Part of the BrAIn Project
From July 9 to 11, 2025, the Catholic University of Croatia hosted a research workshop as part of the BrAIn project – Application of Artificial Intelligence-Based Digital Technologies in Education, with a specific focus on the well-being of children and youth in relation to their use of digital technologies.
The workshop brought together members of the BrAIn research team from the Catholic University of Croatia:
Lovro Knežević, Ana Žulec Ivanković, Lana Ciboci Perša, Josip Ježovita, Snježana Mališa, Marija Šakić Velić, Mario Pandžić, Matea Bodrožić Selak, Ana Haramina, Toni Ćosić, and Marina Merkaš. Together with experts from CARNET, they discussed preliminary research findings collected from 45 primary and secondary schools during the 2024/2025 academic year.
Over the course of the three-day workshop, participants analyzed qualitative and quantitative data from the study, drafted initial recommendations for the responsible use of digital technologies with an emphasis on student well-being, and began developing a science-based support framework for students, parents, teachers, school staff, principals, and policy makers.
The workshop is part of the broader scientific efforts within the BrAIn project, which includes longitudinal monitoring of the effects of digital technologies—particularly those based on artificial intelligence—on the educational process. The project aims to develop sustainable approaches to personalized learning, digital literacy, and safeguarding the well-being of children and young people.
