Midwifery – New Undergraduate Programme at the Catholic University of Croatia

On 7 July 2025, the Agency for Science and Higher Education issued an accreditation to the Catholic University of Croatia for the implementation of a university undergraduate study programme in Midwifery.

The programme will span three years, and upon completion, students will earn the academic title: University Bachelor of Midwifery (univ. bacc. obs.). The programme will be delivered in Croatian, in both full-time and part-time formats, with the first generation of students enrolling in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Additionally, starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, the Catholic University of Croatia will launch a bridging programme in Midwifery for candidates who have completed secondary school training in midwifery and hold a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and who are currently working in midwifery care. This one-year programme will enable them to obtain the academic title University Bachelor of Midwifery.

“We are proud to introduce the new Midwifery study programme at our University, which will undoubtedly contribute to the education of healthcare professionals, the advancement of maternal and newborn care, and the development of our community. This university-level programme will offer our students the opportunity to build their knowledge and skills in line with the highest European and global professional and educational standards,” said Asst. Prof. Ivica Matić, Head of the Department of Nursing.

“We are confident that this programme will open up new possibilities for the professional development of midwives, both in horizontal and vertical education and training, as well as within all segments of maternal and women’s health care—where midwives are key professionals in both hospital and community-based settings,” emphasised Prof. Dubravko Habek, a member of the programme development committee.

Detailed information regarding programme duration, course delivery, and the application process will be published in due time on the University’s official website.
