CUC Students and Faculty Mark International Midwives Day

On the occasion of the International Day of the Midwife, celebrated annually on 5 May, students of the Midwifery programme at the Faculty of Health Studies of the Catholic University of Croatia took part in a series of activities highlighting the importance of this profession for society as a whole.

“The World Needs One Million More Midwives”

On Sunday, 3 May 2026, students joined a public health initiative held at Zrinjevac Park in Zagreb, organised by the Croatian Association for the Promotion of Midwifery. Under the slogan “The World Needs One Million More Midwives,” the event brought together professionals and future midwives to raise public awareness of the crucial role midwives play in safeguarding women’s and newborns’ health, as well as the global challenges facing the profession.

Ceremonial Gathering at University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice

The celebration continued on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, at the Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics of University Hospital Centre Sestre milosrdnice. Midwives from the Clinic warmly welcomed the University’s midwifery students, faculty members, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Studies Assist. Prof. Ivica Matić, PhD, and the Rector of the University, Prof. Željko Tanjić, PhD.

This gathering provided an opportunity for the exchange of experiences between seasoned practitioners and students preparing for this demanding vocation. The presence and support of the University and Faculty leadership further underscored the institution’s commitment to educating highly qualified healthcare professionals who will serve the community with both expertise and compassion.

Congratulations to all midwives—especially our current and future students—on their day!
