Candlemas and the Day of Consecrated Life

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, known among our people as Candlemas, reminds us of Christ - the Light that comes to meet humanity. A candle, blessed and lit, is a sign of the light that dispels darkness, of hope that does not fade, and of faith lived through concrete choices.

On this day, the Church also celebrates the Day of Consecrated Life. It is an opportunity to honor and give thanks for all monks and nuns, consecrated laypeople, and all those who have chosen to dedicate their lives to God and to others. Their quiet, faithful, and often unobtrusive witness shows that total self-giving is possible, and that true joy comes not from possession, but from giving.

In a world marked by speed, uncertainty, and the search for meaning, the consecrated life remains a powerful sign of hope. It reminds us that true freedom is found in love, and the future in trusting God.

On this occasion, the Catholic University of Croatia expresses its gratitude to all those in consecrated life, who enrich the Church and society with their knowledge, prayer, work, and presence, and whose witness illuminates the path for young people and all who seek a deeper meaning in life. May the light of Candlemas inspire us to be light ourselves - where we live, study, and work.
