Archival research in Zadar

As part of the research activities within the Croatian Science Foundation project “The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Changes” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), carried out at the Catholic University of Croatia, Prof. Ivan Majnarić, PhD, conducted research at the State Archives in Zadar from April 22 to 24, 2026.

The focus of the two-day research was on the collection Registro delle ducali dirette ai Conti e Capitanei di Zara 1430-1500 and its comparison with the first volume of the collection Dukale i terminacije 1409–1457. These are among the key sources for a clearer understanding of the formation and functioning of Venetian administration over Zadar during the first half of the 15th century.

The collected data will provide additional insights into social transformations in the Dalmatian region, thereby successfully advancing the implementation of project activities during the first year of the project.
