Professor Tado Jurić published an analytical report on demography and migration in the Western Balkans

Professor Tado Jurić from the University Department of History at the Catholic University of Croatia has published a new policy report/analytical study within the Prague Process/ICMPD: Western Balkans 2035: Demographic Resilience and Strategic Migration Planning under EU Integration and Isolation Scenarios.

The report analyzes how migration will shape the demographic and socio-economic future of Southeast Europe by 2035. It compares two possible development paths: a scenario of deeper EU integration and a scenario of strategic isolation, showing that the region’s future will depend less on fertility rates and more on institutional quality, migration governance, and the ability to retain and attract back emigrated populations.

Particular emphasis is placed on the link between public policy management, migration behavior, and demographic outcomes, as well as on the need to develop strategic and data-driven policies, including Big Data approaches in demography and migration studies.

The report also outlines concrete recommendations for national governments and European institutions, ranging from strengthening institutional quality and supporting young families and returnees, to establishing systems for early identification of migration and demographic risks.
