Sociology students at a lecture at the Croatian National Bank

As part of the Fundamentals of Macroeconomics course, taught by Assistant Professor Petra Palić, PhD, first and second year students of the University Graduate Study Program in Sociology visited the Croatian National Bank on May 12, 2015, where they participated in an expert and interactive lecture by PhD Milan Deskar Škrbić entitled What is Money and How is It Created?

The lecture covered key concepts and challenges of contemporary monetary policy, including money creation, monetary policy transmission mechanisms, monetary "bazookas", financial system stability, and the role and influence of the European Central Bank on national economies. Through concrete examples and current events, students gained a deeper understanding of how monetary policy shapes the everyday lives of citizens.

The lecture was held as part of the Monterra – the Croatian National Bank Money Museum, a modernly equipped space that, through multimedia, educational and interactive content, brings the topics of money, inflation, price stability and the functions and responsibilities of the central bank closer to the public. After the lecture, the students had the opportunity to interactively view the museum's permanent exhibition, which innovatively presents the history of money and the development of the monetary system in Croatia. Through various digital simulations, multimedia displays and interactive installations, the students had the opportunity to learn more about the history of money, its role in everyday life, personal finances, monetary policy and the tasks of the central bank in a unique and stimulating way.

We would like to thank Dr. Milan Deskar Škrbić and the Croatian National Bank for their exceptional hospitality and for the lecture that stimulated critical thinking and discussion among students. We look forward to future meetings and continued cooperation!
