Second Part of the 2nd Student Workshop Held – Field Research
On Wednesday, May 14, the second part of the Student Workshop was held as part of the project “Topography of Medieval Zagreb County (14th–16th Century)”. Under the guidance of Professor Hrvoje Kekez, Ph.D., and project collaborators Branimir Brgles, Ph.D., Krešimir Regan, Ph.D., Robert Skenderović, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Tomislav Matić, Ph.D., and Matea Jurić Matulić, M.A. in History, graduate and doctoral students of history at the Catholic University of Croatia participated in field research at the sites of the old towns of Krapina and Trakošćan.
At the site of the fortified town of Krapina, students were introduced to fieldwork methods, specifically site reconnaissance. They conducted surveying and measurements of the preserved remains of this historically significant medieval fortification. The participants also visited the Trakošćan manor. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to learn about medieval Ottoman bows. Ivan Trogrlić, M.A. in History and doctoral student in the postgraduate doctoral program in history at the Catholic University of Croatia, gave a lecture and demonstration on this type of medieval weaponry.
Finally, Robert Skenderović, Ph.D., delivered a brief lecture to students on the environmental history of the Bednja region, with a particular emphasis on family history research.
