Dr Leali Osmančević on Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin
Within the framework of the Erasmus+ staff mobility programme, Dr Leali Osmančević from the University Department of Communication Studies stayed from 18 to 22 May 2026 at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski Jana Pawła II – KUL / John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin), Poland.
During the mobility, Dr Osmančević delivered lectures for undergraduate, graduate and international students on the topics “Visual Communication, Digital Literacy & Media-Constructed Reality” and “Media and Power: Understanding Visual Narratives about Vulnerable Groups”. The lectures were focused on critical understanding of visual communication, digital literacy and media-constructed reality, with a special emphasis on media representations of vulnerable social groups. Students were also introduced to qualitative research methods for the analysis of media texts and content, using examples from Croatian and Polish media.
The teaching was held within courses led by Assist. Prof. Joanna Szegda, PhD, and Paweł Wieczorek, MA, at the Department of Media Culture (Katedra Kultury Medialnej / Department of Media Culture) within the Institute of Social Communication and Media (Instytut Nauk o Komunikacji Społecznej i Mediach / Institute of Social Communication and Media) at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology (Wydział Nauk Społecznych i Technicznych / Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology) of KUL. During the lectures, the Catholic University of Croatia was also presented to students, with an emphasis on student mobility opportunities in the upcoming academic year.
Dr Osmančević also participated in thematic meetings. The first was held with Dr hab. Justyna Szulich Kałuża, Prof., Head of the Institute of Journalism and Management (Instytut Dziennikarstwa i Zarządzania / Institute of Journalism and Management), and with Prof. ucz. Dr hab. Grzegorz Tylec, Head of the Department of Language, Rhetoric and Media Law (Katedra Języka, Retoryki i Prawa Mediów / Department of Language, Rhetoric and Media Law). The second meeting was held with representatives of the Office for International Cooperation and Erasmus+ mobility for staff and students.
The mobility contributed to the exchange of experiences in the field of media and digital literacy, qualitative research methodology, development of teaching methods, and strengthening of international academic cooperation between the two institutions.
The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin is one of the oldest Polish universities, founded in 1918, known for its strong humanistic tradition, international orientation and important role in the development of social sciences and humanities in Central Europe. Relics of St John Paul II are kept in the Academic Church of KUL (Kościół Akademicki KUL / Academic Church of KUL), where a reliquary with a drop of the Pope’s blood is located.
