Assistant Professor Brgles from the Department of Sociology Participates in Workshop on Cultural Expertise in Paris

Assistant Professor Miriam Mary Brgles from the Department of Sociology at the Catholic University of Croatia took part in the meeting and workshop titled “Cultural Expertise, Cultural Heritage and International Commercial Arbitration”, held at the Paris Institute for Advanced Study as part of the COST Action K-Peritia.

In addition to the COST Action, the event was co-organised by the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and the Institute of Legal Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. The workshop was convened by COST Action leaders Prof. Dr. Livia Holden and Prof. Dr. Dina Hadad, with opening remarks delivered by the Director of the Paris Institute, Prof. Dr. Xavier Philippe.

Key speakers included Mathilde Leduc, curator at the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Belgium, and Prof. Dr. Giorgio Colombo from Ca' Foscari University of Venice. Following the presentations, a roundtable discussion was held, with Prof. Dr. Noelle Higgins and Prof. Dr. Mathias Audit as the main panelists.

The workshop took place at the historically significant Hôtel de Lauzun, a location once home to renowned French literary figures such as Charles Baudelaire and Théophile Gautier, adding to both the atmosphere and the significance of the COST Action.

Assistant Professor Brgles is an active member of the Management Committee of the COST Action and has translated into Croatian the policy paper on cultural expertise and the key stages of EURO EXPERT
