Requiem Mass for Pope Francis at CUC

As an academic community dedicated to the search for truth and the promotion of Christian values, with deep respect and Christian hope in the faith of the resurrection, students, teachers and staff of the Catholic University of Croatia participated in the Holy Requiem Mass for the deceased Pope Francis, which was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in the university chapel. The Holy Mass celebration, at which the academic community of the Catholic University of Croatia gave thanks for the life and work of the Holy Father, was led by the Rector prof. Željko Tanjić, concelebrating with the Vice-Rector for Quality, Identity and Mission, Prof. Ante Crnčević, and the university chaplain, Rev. Branimir Jagodić.

In his sermon, Rector Tanjić spoke of Pope Francis's true commitment to the Church, to people on the margins, and to good, and particularly emphasized the Pope's thoughts on Catholic universities, which Pope Francis said should be "at the forefront of efforts to build a culture of peace, in all its aspects, which should be addressed in an interdisciplinary vision," and how they should "engage in dialogue on the great issues of our time."

At the end of the Mass, Rector Tanjić invited the audience to pray together as a community of believers and as members of the Croatian Catholic University for the soul of Pope Francis, for the Church, and for the election of a new Holy Father.
