Postdoctoral Researcher Poslon at an International Conference in Spain

Postdoctoral Researcher Luka Poslon, PhD, from Catholic University of Croatia participated in the international scientific conference EXPLAINABILITY 2026 – The Third International Conference on Systems Explainability, held from September 27 to October 1, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain. The conference was organized by the International Academy, Research, and Industry Association (IARIA) and held as part of the TechWorld 2026 congress. The conference brought together researchers and experts working on the explainability and interpretability of complex artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

At the conference, Postdoctoral Researcher Poslon, in collaboration with Johannes Gebert, PhD, from the High Performance Computing Center (HLRS) at the University of Stuttgart, presented a paper entitled “Bringing Transparency to Transplant Ethics: Measuring Ethical Frailty with Explainable AI.” The paper was included in the official conference program and is scheduled for publication as part of the conference proceedings.

The paper examines the growing use of AI in transplant medicine, particularly in the evaluation of offered organs, donor–recipient matching, and risk stratification. The authors highlight how opaque AI systems, insufficient human oversight, and potential bias in AI systems may pose challenges to fairness in decision-making in a field where organs are a scarce resource. Although numerous ethical principles and regulatory frameworks govern the use of AI in healthcare, the authors emphasize the need for a systematic approach to assessing the ethical vulnerability of decision-making processes involving AI systems.
