New research visit in Italy
As part of the research activities of the Croatian Science Foundation project The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Transformations (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), conducted at the Catholic University of Croatia, a new archival research visit was carried out at Italian institutions.
From June 22 to July 1, 2026, Assistant Professor Luka Špoljarić, PhD, conducted the main part of his research at the Archivio di Stato di Modena, working with the Este family archive, specifically within the Ambasciatori series. He also carried out research at the Berenson Library at Villa I Tatti, Harvard University’s Center for Italian Renaissance Studies, where he examined relevant scholarly literature.
The research contributes to a better understanding of the foreign policy and diplomatic connections between the Croatian late medieval nobility and the Italian states.
