Further Research at the State Archives in Zadar: Records of Pre-Venetian Korčula

As part of the research activities of the Croatian Science Foundation project “The Formation of the Territorial State in Late Medieval Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia: Socio-Political and Administrative Transformations” (CroDaSTrans, IP-2025-02-4345), conducted at the Catholic University of Croatia, a new archival research visit has been successfully completed.

Project team member Associate Professor Tomislav Popić, PhD, carried out research at the State Archives in Zadar from June 8 to 13, 2026. The research focused on the rich holdings of collection HR-DAZD-11, Municipality of Korčula, with particular attention given to a detailed analysis of boxes 1 through 5, which cover the crucial pre-Venetian period.

During the research, relevant judicial, notarial, financial, and administrative records dating to and around the year 1420 were identified and examined. The results obtained and the archival material collected will provide valuable insights into the administrative and socio-political practices of the area under study and will serve as an important resource for the further development of the project, particularly in relation to source analysis and the preparation of forthcoming scholarly publications.

We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the State Archives in Zadar for their continued support and for providing excellent working conditions throughout the research visit.
