Sociology Students Attend the Play Mitomanija at GK Trešnja
On Thursday, 14 May 2026, third-year sociology students, led by Assist. Prof. Miriam Mary Brgles, PhD, visited Gradsko kazalište Trešnja, where they attended the play Mitomanija. Recently premiered, the production offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Greek myths. It is directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, based on a text and dramatization by Marijana Fumić. A discussion followed the performance, focusing on the relevance and timelessness of Greek mythology.

Students were tasked with identifying how themes from Greek mythology are reflected in modernisation processes such as globalisation, individualisation, digitalisation, and technological development. They also analysed the relationship between individuals and hierarchies, systems of power, and social pressures.
Particular emphasis was placed on issues of disorientation, manipulation, and the breakdown of social relationships, as well as their potential renewal through dialogue and mutual understanding—for example, through interpretations of the myth of Persephone.
The discussion also highlighted the symbolism of Pandora’s box as an enduring myth about human curiosity and the consequences of uncontrolled progress—today often interpreted through the development and application of artificial intelligence. At the same time, it underscored the fragility of social relationships, but also the enduring presence of hope as a foundation for restoring social cohesion and solidarity.
