CUC Established the Faculty of Health Studies

The Faculty brings together the University Study Programmes of Nursing and Midwifery

At the session of the Senate of the Catholic University of Croatia held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, a decision was made to establish the Faculty of Health Studies. Assist. Prof. Ivica Matić, Ph.D., was appointed Acting Dean. The Faculty of Health Studies offers the university study programmes of Nursing and Midwifery in the field of biomedical sciences, opening a new perspective for the development of healthcare education at CUC.

It should be noted that the Midwifery programme is the “youngest” programme at the Catholic University of Croatia: the first generation of undergraduate students enrolled in the academic year 2025/2026. The programme lasts three years, offered in both full-time and part-time study modes, and upon completion students are awarded the academic title of University Bachelor of Midwifery (univ. bacc. obs.). A bridging programme in Midwifery is also offered for candidates who completed secondary school in midwifery and an undergraduate degree in nursing and are employed in midwifery care. Through this one-year programme, they obtain the qualification of University Bachelor of Midwifery.

The University Department of Nursing has been offering undergraduate and graduate programmes since 2015, both full-time and part-time, and is the largest programme at the Catholic University of Croatia. The programme places particular importance on integrating lasting values into modern biomedical education, enriched by continuous collaboration with the social sciences and humanities. The undergraduate and graduate programmes in nursing are designed to respond to the contemporary challenges of nursing practice, equipping students to provide high-quality, evidence-based care, supported by advanced technical skills, but always with an emphasis on the humane and moral aspects of the profession. The goal is to educate highly qualified healthcare professionals capable of delivering effective, innovative, and compassionate care.

“The establishment of the Faculty of Health Studies at the Catholic University of Croatia marks a new chapter in the development of healthcare education at CUC. This academic year, alongside our largest programme in nursing, we are especially pleased to launch the midwifery programme. Midwifery, as one of the oldest professions, reflects a dedication to life from its very beginning and a noble service to the community through care for mother and child. We wish all our students a successful start to the academic year,” said Assist. Prof. Ivica Matić, Ph.D., Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Studies.
