Bishop Glasnović Celebrates Mass for Summer School Participants in Dubrovnik
On Sunday, July 13, 2025, Bishop Roko Glasnović of Dubrovnik celebrated the Eucharist with participants of the fourth international Summer School “Practicing Resilience – Preparing for Recovery” in the chapel of the “Paola di Rosa” Student Residence in Dubrovnik.
Reflecting on the Gospel passage featuring the dialogue between the scribes and Jesus about what one must do to inherit eternal life—and Jesus’ explanation of who one's neighbour is through the parable of the Good Samaritan—Bishop Glasnović emphasized the importance of this question and its link to the broader question of life’s meaning. “What good is all the knowledge in the world if you do not know what you are living for?” he said. “Jesus gave a clear answer: to inherit eternal life, one must love God and one’s neighbour.”
Expanding on the concept of a neighbour, Bishop Glasnović noted that while no one can solve all the world’s problems or help everyone, each of us can help someone. “Open your eyes to the needs of your neighbour and stand by them with your heart,” he said, further explaining the importance of compassion and other aspects of the parable, with a special emphasis on restoring human dignity to those who have been humiliated.
Bishop Glasnović celebrated the Mass for the participants of the summer school, their families and friends, and for peace in Ukraine and the world. He was joined by University Chaplain Rev. Branimir Jagodić and Greek Catholic priest Fr. Andriy Shestak from the Ukrainian Catholic University.
This year’s summer school is once again organized by the Catholic University of Croatia in collaboration with the Nanovic Institute of the University of Notre Dame (USA), the Ukrainian Catholic University, and the Catholic Universities Partnership. Previous summer schools were held in Dubrovnik in 2022, and in Šibenik in 2023 and 2024.
