Assistant Professor Palić at the Annual Meeting of the COST Action ACRYRED in Slovakia
Assistant Professor Dr. Petra Palić from the Department of Sociology of the Catholic University of Croatia participated in the annual meeting of the COST Action CA21149 – ACRYRED (Reducing acrylamide exposure of consumers by a cereals supply-chain approach targeting asparagine), held on 9 and 10 June 2025 in Piešťany, Slovakia.

The aim of the ACRYRED initiative is to establish a multidisciplinary research and communication network focused on reducing the formation of acrylamide in cereals and cereal-based food products. Acrylamide, a compound formed during the thermal processing of food, poses a potential health threat to consumers and has raised concerns within the food industry and among regulatory bodies.

Assistant Professor Palić is the only Management Committee member from the Republic of Croatia and is actively involved in the work of two working groups:
• Working Group 4: Cereal Supply Chain Economy, which addresses the economic aspects of the cereal supply chain,
• Working Group 5: Dialogue on Risk-Benefit, which promotes dialogue among scientists, industry, and consumers on assessing the benefits and risks associated with dietary habits and policies.
Her participation in this action highlights the important role of the Catholic University of Croatia in international research initiatives tackling current challenges in health, food safety, and the sustainability of the agri-food sector.
