Prof. Livia Puljak and Colleagues Publish the Book "Science Without Drama"

In December 2025, faculty members of the Catholic University of Croatia (CUC), together with colleagues from other higher education institutions, published the book Science Without Drama: How to Conduct Research and Write About It. The editor of the book is Prof. Livia Puljak, PhD, from the Faculty of Health Studies at CUC. The book is an official CUC university textbook; the publisher is Naklada Slap, with CUC as co-publisher.

In addition to serving as a teaching text, the book is intended for anyone interested in science who would like to conduct research but does not know how or where to begin (or has some knowledge but wishes to learn more), those seeking a mentor or co-authors, students writing bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral theses, researchers wishing to publish articles based on their dissertations, as well as those interested in learning how to write a scientific paper, prepare a conference poster, generate ideas for new research, and responsibly use artificial intelligence in research, among many other topics. To facilitate the conduct of new research, each chapter describing a specific type of research concludes with a checklist of steps that such research should include.

The idea for writing this book originated with CUC students, who repeatedly told instructors teaching scientific methodology that they needed a single book that would integrate all the material taught across the various methodology courses throughout their studies.

The term “drama” appears in the title because, during classes in scientific methodology, students often dramatize when they are required to do something scientific. However, once they complete the task, they usually conclude that it was not that difficult after all and that there was no need for so much drama.

With this book, the authors convey the message that there is no need to dramatize science; instead, one should simply begin and learn. Where there is a will, there is a way—and the same applies to science. It is a set of rules that can be learned, after which there is no room for drama.
