The first part of the student workshop on the project "Topography of the Medieval Zagreb County (14th-16th centuries)" was held
On Friday, March 28, 2025, the first part of the 2nd Student Workshop was held at the Catholic University of Croatia as part of the project “Topography of Medieval Zagreb County (14th–16th Century)” (IP-2020-02-8706). The workshop was attended by first- and second-year graduate history students. The opening address was delivered by Professor Hrvoje Kekez, Ph.D., project leader.
Professor Kekez introduced the students to the project's goals and research methodology, as well as to the project team and the results achieved so far. Following him, project collaborator Krešimir Regan, Ph.D., presented the field research conducted as part of the project. He guided students through the steps of fieldwork using the case studies of the fortified towns of Steničnjak and Perna. He explained the preparations for reconnaissance, the course of field research, and emphasized the use of modern digital technologies and site measurements.
Using these examples, Dr. Regan also presented the results of the fieldwork. The third speaker was Branimir Brgles, Ph.D., also a project collaborator, who introduced the students to specific historical sources explored within the project—so-called pre-statistical serial sources. Dr. Brgles presented urbars and tithe registers from the Trakošćan estate dating from the mid-16th century. In the practical part of the workshop, students had the opportunity to learn how to read and analyze these complex sources.
The second part of the 2nd Student Workshop is scheduled for early May, during which students will participate in field research of the old towns of Krapina and Trakošćan.
