DigHealth Project Advances with Annual Meeting and Telemedicine Training in Greece and Croatia
The Micro-credentials in Digital Health for Ethiopia and Somalia (DigHealth) project — EU reference number 101179425 — has reached a key milestone with the successful completion of its first annual meeting and intensive training programme on telemedicine and digital health, held from 29 September to 10 October 2025 in Greece and Croatia.
Co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme (Capacity Building in Higher Education – CBHE), the DigHealth project brings together ten partner institutions from Europe and Africa to modernize healthcare education and improve access to digital health services in Ethiopia and Somalia.
Hosted by the University of Piraeus (Greece) and RIT Croatia (Zagreb), the two-week programme combined strategic project meetings with practical training for university staff and health educators.
During the annual meeting in Piraeus (29–30 September), partners reviewed project progress across all work packages, including curriculum design, equipment installation, and quality assurance. Discussions focused on governance, dissemination, and risk management, setting a clear roadmap for the next implementation phase.
The following training sessions in Greece (1–3 October) and Croatia (6–10 October) deepened participants’ understanding of telemedicine, e-health, and data privacy. University lecturers and medical professionals from Ethiopia and Somalia explored European best practices in remote monitoring, teleconsultation, and secure digital infrastructures, complemented by visits to hospitals in Athens and Zagreb.
According to the consortium, these hands-on activities represent “a turning point for building digital health capacity and integrating new learning methods into African medical education.” The training sessions will directly support the creation of new micro-credential programmes in digital health at partner universities in Ethiopia and Somalia — a first in the region.
Led by RIT Croatia, DigHealth unites partners from five countries:
Croatia (RIT Croatia, Catholic University of Croatia), Greece (University of Piraeus), Belgium (Institut de Haute Formation aux Politiques Communautaires – IHF), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa University, Bule Hora University, Jigjiga University), and Somalia (University of Hargeisa, Horseed International University, Somali Education and Youth Development Action – SOEYDA).
The project runs until November 2027, aiming to equip educators and health professionals with essential digital skills to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
