Assoc. Prof. Filip Galović, Ph.D., at the Scholarly Conference Held at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU)
On Thursday and Friday, 13–14 November 2025, the 15th Conference on Croatian Dialects čera – dənəs – zutra was held in Zagreb, organised by the Committee for Dialectology of the Department of Philological Sciences of HAZU, the Institute for Linguistic Research of HAZU, and the Institute of the Croatian Language. Presentations were grouped into the following thematic sections: historical dialectology, western varieties of the Croatian language, vernacular idioms as intangible cultural heritage, and a general section.

In his presentation titled “Local Dialects of the Western Part of Slavonian Posavina Today”, Assoc. Prof. Filip Galović, Ph.D., examined several vernaculars of the Slavonian dialect in the western Posavina region, highlighting their linguistic features and the current state of these dialects. The Posavina vernaculars—especially those in the west—preserve specific archaic elements and are valuable within broader Slavic linguistic research.

It is worth recalling that the first HAZU conference on Croatian dialects was held in 1976 at the initiative of the Committee for Dialectology, then chaired by Academician Ljudevit Jonke. Initially organised every two years—and since 1984, every four years—these conferences have brought together renowned Croatian and international dialectologists who present new findings from dialectology and related philological disciplines. The scholarly conferences on Croatian dialects are considered among the most significant gatherings in Croatian and Slavic dialectology.
