First Dean of the Faculty of Engineering elected

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Engineering of the Catholic University of Croatia, consisting of Prof. Gordan Črpić, Prof. Roko Mišetić, Prof. Hrvoje Štefančić, Prof. Tamara Holjevac Grgurić, Assoc. Prof. Richard Pavlić, Assist. Prof.  Odilon Singbo and Assoc. Prof. Karlo Filipan, elected as its first dean Prof. Zlatan Car.
 


Professor Zlatan Car graduated from the Technical Faculty of the University of Rijeka and in October 1998 received a scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Technology of Japan (Monbusho) for young scientists to study at the Kobe University Graduate School of Science and Technology, where he dealt with the challenges of implementing and using multi-agent technology and artificial intelligence in process design, adaptation, supervision and management of the production plant of modern production systems.
 


In April 2003, he received his PhD from Kobe University and is employed as a postdoctoral fellow. In February 2004, he was employed at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka, where he held the positions of laboratory head, department head, head of department, and vice-dean for business relations of the faculty. Since 2010, he has been the head of the Center for Advanced Computing and Modeling at the University of Rijeka, and from 2013 to 2017, he served as vice-rector for informatization at the University of Rijeka. His research deals with aspects of the application of artificial intelligence, advanced modeling, and the application of high-performance computing in cooperation with research institutes and industry.

He has published more than 100 papers, is a member of the National Committee for Strategic Research Infrastructure of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia, is the representative of the Republic of Croatia in the Horizon Europe Program Committee in the Scientific Infrastructure Committee of the European Commission, and in numerous other scientific and expert councils, committees, and organizations. He is the recipient of the 2015 State Award for the Popularization and Promotion of Science in the Field of Technical Sciences.
