Assistant Poslon at the Bioethics Summer Schools in Šibenik
Our Research Assistant Luka Poslon, from the Digital Healthcare Ethics Laboratory (Digit-HeaL) at Catholic University of Croatia, served as a lecturer at the international as well as the national editions of the Summer School of Bioethics and Human Rights, held in Šibenik and organized by the World Youth Alliance Croatia in cooperation with the World Youth Alliance.
The international edition of the Summer School of Bioethics and Human Rights, now in its fifth consecutive year, took place from 28 July to 3 August 2025 and brought together participants and renowned lecturers from numerous countries across several continents. The program, conducted in English, featured lectures, workshops, and debates addressing key bioethical issues, including the right to life, palliative care, demographic change, and gender ideology.
From 4 to 10 August 2025, the national edition of the Summer School of Bioethics and Human Rights was held for the eighth consecutive year, offering a program in Croatian designed for students from across the country. This edition placed particular emphasis on topics such as the right to conscientious objection and the challenges of addiction, among other contemporary bioethical concerns.
At both editions, Assistant Poslon delivered lectures entitled Introduction to Bioethics — in Croatian for the national program and in English for the international program — highlighting the importance of ethical considerations in the development and application of emerging technologies in healthcare. He also presented an overview of the historical development of bioethics as a distinct scientific discipline providing ethical frameworks for addressing present-day challenges in healthcare and biotechnology.
A total of eleven students from the Catholic University of Croatia, representing the Departments of Sociology, Communication science, Psychology, and Nursing, actively participated in the programs, engaging in discussions and contributing to workshops.
The World Youth Alliance is a non-profit organization that unites young people aged 18 to 30 in the promotion and protection of human rights, grounded in the recognition of the inherent dignity of the human person.
