The University Department of Sociology at the Catholic University of Croatia will celebrate its 15th anniversary on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

The programme will begin with Holy Mass at 10 a.m. in the University Chapel, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop of Zagreb Bishop Marko Kovač, followed by a formal academic ceremony at 11:15 a.m. in the Aula Magna.

The programme will include the interdisciplinary round table “Artificial Intelligence, the Future of Humanity and Society”, focusing on how artificial intelligence is changing individuals and society, the opportunities and limitations arising from its development, and how human dignity, freedom and the common good can be preserved in a time of rapid technological change. The round table will be held in light of Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Magnifica humanitas and will feature Professor Tonči Matulić, PhD, Professor Gordan Črpić, PhD, Associate Professor Mihaela Vranić, PhD, and Petar Šarić, MA in Sociology and Philosophy. The discussion will be moderated by Anamaria Malešević, PhD.

The programme will also feature the exhibition “Faces of the City: A Sociological Reading of Public Space”, presenting students’ sociological interpretations of selected squares, markets, parks and streets in Zagreb. Drawing on the idea of “reading the city”, the exhibition presents public space as a dynamic social text shaped by the everyday practices of its users and raises questions about different ways in which space is used, the meanings attributed to it, and the relationship between space and place. The student projects were created as part of fieldwork for the Urban Sociology course under the supervision of Professor Anka Mišetić, PhD, and Nika Đuho, PhD.
