Renata Bermanec
Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Health Studies at the Croatian Catholic University. She completed a Master of Science degree in palliative and supportive care at the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom, defending her dissertation titled „What are the views of palliative patients and their families on their needs for palliative care services in Medjimurje (county of Croatia)?“. She is the recipient of the “Ray Oliver Prize 2011” for the best dissertation.
Since 2017, she has been employed at the Čakovec Health Center as the coordinator for palliative care in Međimurje County, in addition to her work at the Croatian Catholic University. From 2012 to 2017, she conducted a pilot project of the Palliative Care Coordination Center in the City of Zagreb, which became part of the National Strategy for the Development of Palliative Care in the Republic of Croatia (2014–2016) and the minimum standard for the development of palliative care in each county.
She is the head of the Croatian Society of Nurses in Palliative Care and the Association “Help for people facing life threathening illneses” from Čakovec, Croatia. She has received two national awards: “Volunteer of the Year” (2011) and “Pride of Croatia” (2024).

Annually, she carries out 20 projects aimed at developing palliative care within the activities of the “Help for the Incurable” Association, in collaboration with local and regional self-government (cities, villages, and Međimurje County).
