Lucija Mihaljević

Dr. Lucija Mihaljević is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication at the Croatian Catholic University. She began her academic career in 2007 as a research assistant at the Institute of Anthropology, after completing a degree in Philosophy and Religious Culture at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Zagreb. In 2013, she earned her Ph.D. at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, with a dissertation in economic anthropology. Her research sits at the intersection of economic and digital anthropology, intercultural communication, and studies of transnational spaces and material culture. She publishes in domestic and international scholarly journals and has edited two books. She has participated in numerous research and professional projects (EC FP6 LINEE; HRZZ IP9-2022-02) and leads the project “Identity and Technology – Processes of Identification, Communication and Interaction with New Technologies” at the Croatian Catholic University. She has undertaken further training at the universities of Southampton, Szeged, and Bolzano, and is a recipient of scholarships from the City of Zagreb, the Adris Foundation, and the British Scholarship Trust. She is active in science communication and media appearances and serves on university bodies (the Ethics Committee and the International Cooperation Committee).

Digital Anthropology — identities in sociotechnical systems; platform cultures and governance; ethnographies of emerging technologies (AI, automation, datafication)
Economic Anthropology — consumer practices and market cultures; value and exchange; semiotics of branding and advertising; market-mediated identities
Transnational Spaces & Material Culture — diplomacy and mobility regimes; object biographies and materiality; circulation of symbols, artifacts, and practices across borders
