Karla Knežević
Karla Knežević is an expert associate at the Faculty of Engineering on the project lead by prof. Tamara Holjevac Grgurić, PhD titled AntibacHip – The Development of an Innovative Antibacterial Material for Hip Prosthesis. She graduated in 2024 from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb after successfully defending her thesis titled Optimization of expression and purification of atypical arginyl-tRNA-synthetases made under the mentorship of prof. Ita Gruić Sovulj and co-mentorship of Igor Živković, PhD at the Division of Biochemistry. In 2024, she enrolled in the Doctoral study of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb.
In 2023, she was awarded the Department of Chemistry Medal for excellent success during studies. She earned the title of Master of Science in Chemistry in the category of top 10 % most successful of students in her studies.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Metallic biomaterials based on titanium alloys, additive manufacturing technologies of metals (SLS, SLM, EBM) and methods of material characterization (DSC, XRD, DMA, SEM), research of antibacterial properties of metal materials for biomedical applications, proteomics (expression, purification and kinetic methods of characterization of proteins)
