Sociology Students Visited the Multimedia Center "Experience Europe"
On Monday, May 19, 2025, sociology students, as part of the courses European Modernization – A Comparative Perspective and Introduction to European Integration, led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Miriam Mary Brgles, Assist. Prof. Dr. Jeronim Dorotić, and teaching assistant Lovro Knežević, visited the multimedia center Experience Europe, where they took part in a role-playing simulation as Members of the European Parliament.

In simulated roles as MEPs from various EU countries and different political groups, the students engaged in debates, listened to the opinions of various stakeholders (activists, scientists, lobbyists...), negotiated, appeared on a televised debate, responded to a sudden crisis, and voted on European Union directives. Through this experience, they learned about the structure and organization of the European Parliament, the work of parliamentary groups, how to debate with arguments and speak publicly, as well as how to skillfully reach a consensus on current social issues.
Moreover, through role-play, students gained insight into how decisions made at the EU level impact the lives of European citizens and how European democracy functions. In conclusion, they expressed their support for democratic values by taking “selfie” portraits with statements shown on a screen that connects the Zagreb center with others in Brussels, Tallinn, Paris, and beyond.
