Outstanding Sporting Success of CUC Students at Humanijada

At Humanijada 2026, held from 6 to 10 May 2026 in Umag, students of the Catholic University of Croatia achieved remarkable results, winning a total of three gold and two silver medals. The most notable successes came in women’s futsal, table tennis, and swimming.

Historic Gold for Women’s Futsal Team

The women’s futsal team made history by winning the University’s first team gold medal. In a dramatic final, they defeated Zagreb University of Applied Health Sciences 8:7 on penalties (1:1 after regular time).

CUC took the lead in the second minute through captain Mihaela Ćurić, but the opponents equalised before halftime. The match remained level until the end, with the winner decided in a tense penalty shootout.

Antonija Čmarec, a first-year sociology student, stood out by converting all seven of her penalties, demonstrating exceptional composure. Goalkeeper Nikolina Severinski, a second-year psychology student, made three crucial saves, becoming one of the heroes of the final.

In addition to the team title, Marija Rodić was named the tournament’s best player, leading the team with her performances and goals. The tournament also marked the farewell appearances of both Rodić and captain Ćurić, who have been part of the team since its early days.

This gold medal represents the culmination of a journey that began in 2021, when the team was first formed with only a few players. Five years later, it has grown into a strong, cohesive squad achieving the greatest success in the University’s futsal history.

Strong Results in Individual Sports

CUC also achieved outstanding results in individual disciplines. Ana Znika, a first-year communication studies student, won gold in table tennis, defeating her opponent from the School of Dental Medicine University of Zagreb 3:1 in the final.

In swimming, Petar Barić, a second-year medical student, won gold in the 50m freestyle and silver in the 50m butterfly. Petra Blažanović, a first-year communication studies student, secured silver in the 50m backstroke.

Thanks to these achievements, the Catholic University of Croatia ranked sixth overall among 18 participating faculties.

Congratulations to all our students on their exceptional performance, determination, and team spirit.
