Dr. Hren, PhD, spoke on American radio about the history of the necktie
Dr. Filip Hren, PhD, senior assistant at the University Department of History, spoke on Wednesday, January 21, to the American NPR (National Public Radio) about one of the greatest Croatian contributions to world culture - the necktie. This fashion accessory was popularized in the 17th century by soldiers known by the Croatian name, from which its name originates (German Crabaten / French Cravatten = Croats).
The connection between Croatia and this now indispensable fashion accessory has also been recognized in the United States through NPR programming, which, according to 2025 data, is followed weekly by around 50 million users. The full article can be found at the link.
