From 22 to 25 May 2025, the 16th Congress of the Croatian Society for Digestive Surgery and the 5th Congress of the Society of Nurses and Technicians in Digestive Surgery with international participation – Digestive Surgery 2025 – was held in Opatija. The Catholic University of Croatia was a co-organizer of this important scientific and professional event. A key organizational role was played by Dr. Vesna Konjevoda, Senior Assistant at the University Department of Nursing, who served as the President of the Congress.

As part of the congress program, Assoc. Prof. Ivica Matić, PhD, Head of the University Department of Nursing, took part in a panel discussion titled “Multidisciplinary Approach in the Care of Complex Palliative and Terminal Patients after Surgical Treatment.” In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of teamwork in palliative care, the role of highly educated nurses, and the need for university-level education that fosters the development of professional competencies for managing complex patient cases.

By actively participating in both the organization and expert contributions of the congress, the Catholic University of Croatia once again demonstrated its commitment to the advancement of the nursing profession and the promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration in both the Croatian and international healthcare context.
