Associate Professor Sever Globan Participates in International Conference “The 2025 International Conference on Religion & Film”

From 28 to 31 May 2025, Assoc. Prof. Irena Sever Globan, Ph.D., took part in the international academic conference The 2025 International Conference on Religion & Film, organized by Boston University and The Journal of Religion & Film. The conference theme, “Conflict and Reconciliation in Religion and Film,” brought together numerous scholars exploring the role of religion in cinematic portrayals of conflict, reconciliation, violence, and forgiveness.

Held at the Boston University School of Theology, Prof. Sever Globan presented a paper titled: “The Role of Female Characters in Constructing the World of Peace and Reconciliation.” Her presentation offered an analysis of several contemporary films (Where Do We Go Now?, The Women’s Balcony, Women Talking) in which female characters serve as catalysts for peace and reconciliation within religious communities affected by conflict. She emphasized the role of women who, through empathy, resilience, and moral courage, reshape communities marked by division and introduce nonviolence and dialogue as transformative practices. Film, she argued, is a powerful medium for peacebuilding, interreligious dialogue, and fostering social transformation.

During her stay in the United States, Prof. Sever Globan also visited the prestigious Harvard University.
